Monrovia Bulldogs Varsity Grabs Lead in Fifth Inning to Defeat Cloverdale
Monrovia Bulldogs Varsity took the lead late in the game in a 9-2 victory over Cloverdale on Monday. The game was tied at two with Monrovia Bulldogs Varsity batting in the bottom of the fifth when Jeren Maxwell homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring four runs.
Maxwell led Monrovia Bulldogs Varsity to victory by driving in five runs. He went 2-for-4 at the plate. Maxwell drove in runs on a single in the first and a grand slam in the fifth.
Monrovia Bulldogs Varsity got things moving in the first inning. Connor Jelley drove in one when he doubled.
Cloverdale knotted the game up at two in the top of the third inning. Hagymask hit into a fielder’s choice, scoring two runs.
Jaylen Sprague took the win for Monrovia Bulldogs Varsity. He surrendered zero runs on zero hits over four innings, striking out six.
Horbert took the loss for Cloverdale. He allowed four hits and six runs over five innings, striking out one.
Austin Clark started the game for Monrovia Bulldogs Varsity. He went three innings, allowing two runs on two hits and striking out seven.
Monrovia Bulldogs Varsity racked up six hits. Maxwell and Clark each had multiple hits for Monrovia Bulldogs Varsity. Clark and Maxwell each managed two hits to lead Monrovia Bulldogs Varsity. Monrovia Bulldogs Varsity stole eight bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Clark led the way with three.
