Monrovia Bulldogs Varsity Drops Game To South Vermillion After Late Score
Monrovia Bulldogs Varsity stayed in it until the end, but South Vermillion pulled away late in an 8-6 victory on Monday. The game was tied at five with South Vermillion batting in the bottom of the sixth when Cooper Terry singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
Despite the loss, Monrovia Bulldogs Varsity did collect nine hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, South Vermillion had nine hits on the way to victory.
South Vermillion fired up the offense in the second inning, when Bryce McLeish singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run.
Monrovia Bulldogs Varsity knotted the game up at five in the top of the fifth inning, when Jeren Maxwell singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run.
Matthew Panagouleas took the win for South Vermillion. He went four innings, allowing four runs on five hits, striking out three and walking one. Connor VanLannen threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Nick Caplinger took the loss for Monrovia Bulldogs Varsity. He surrendered eight runs on eight hits over five innings, striking out four.
Monrovia Bulldogs Varsity tallied two home runs on the day. Patrick Danforth went deep in the fourth inning. Connor Jelley went for the long ball in the third inning.
Monrovia Bulldogs Varsity totaled nine hits. Maxwell, Cooper Noel, and Jelley all managed multiple hits for Monrovia Bulldogs Varsity. Maxwell went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Monrovia Bulldogs Varsity in hits.
